We’re Going on a Wart Hunt

“SJ look out!” Shauna cries, just as another round of fireballs comes shooting out from behind him.

Luckily SJ ducks down just in time before they go zooming over his head. With the final arrow still in SJ’s possession, Shauna is forced to think fast, so she does the first thing she can think of and grabs the dagger from her belt and hurls it towards the approaching figure as she runs towards it.

The dagger lodges itself perfectly in the center of his chest, pushing him back from the unexpected impact.

“Quick, SJ, follow me! We don’t know if there’s any more of them guarding the entrance!”

SJ hobbles after her, still in a mild state of shock, Barbara following not far behind. As they near Shauna and the deadly blaze, he looks around them to assess the situation and is relieved to see that the answer to Shauna’s question is no, there doesn’t seem to be any more of them around.

He does, however, notice the grand obsidian arch that must be the entrance that leads into the fortress that they are looking for—the fortress in which the nether wart they need lies.

“Come on, let’s go before any of them realize we’ve killed their guards and come looking for us!” Shaun calls out to SJ as she reaches the archway and turns back waiting for him and Barbara to join her.

SJ grabs the blaze rod that now lies in the blaze’s space and quickly catches up with Shauna at the entrance.

“Right, are you ready to storm this place?” SJ asks.

“I don’t know if ‘storm’ is the word I would choose, but sure, why not?” Shauna shrugs, trying to put on a brave face even though she feels anything but brave on the inside.

So with that, the three of them made their way cautiously through the entranceway, making sure to stay in a single file line, their backs pressed against the huge obsidian wall that towered above them on either side.

As they delve deeper into the devilish red fortress, they pass even more tower-like structures all around them, each one seeming even bigger than the last.

“Woah, this place is awesome!” SJ says in awe.

“Shhhhh!” Shauna replies, her finger flying suddenly to her lip. “We don’t want any of the blazes to know we’re in here!”

“Sorry,” he whispers back, and they press on in silence, staring up and around them at the terrifyingly spiky structures.

There’s something about this place that’s spine-chilling, despite the fact it’s anything but cool. It’s boiling, quite literally, Shauna thinks to herself.

SJ tip toes ahead, and Shauna and Barbara follow after, the sound of bubbling lava growing louder once again. I'm not sure that's a good sign, Shauna thinks but continues following SJ until he rounds a corner which leads them into a large square. Instead of a stone floor in the middle of it, the only structure is some sort of crafting table on a podium right in the center, surrounded by a moat of yet more molten lava over every side, with no way to get to it.
